GRANT PROJECT: “First Contact Historical Trail SIGNAGE”
This project consists of the design, layout and installation of interpretive signage, kiosks, educational materials and outreach efforts for the First Contact Historical Trail that traces Europeans first encounter with Native Americans as Hernando DeSoto’s party crossed DeSoto Conty across the Hills through the Delta and Mississippi River and how the land has changed over time.
GRANT EXPERIENCE
Travelers are able to experience the drastic change in geography between the delta, the bluffs and hills beyond them as they traverse the roadway.
Planning and Design Involvement
DeSoto Greenways, DeSoto Tourism, Hernando Chamber of Commerce, DeSoto History Museum, Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation, DeSoto Foundation for Excellence in Education, The Chickasaw Nation and Chickasaw Trails Association was involved in the planning and design.
ABOUT THE GRANTEE
The mission of the DeSoto County Greenways program is to establish a system that connects public and private open and green spaces throughout DeSoto County Mississippi while protecting, restoring and linking the natural features and their functions in order to achieve a healthy natural environment and ecological diversity.
