Breaking Bread:  Itta Bena, MS in the Civil Rights Movement

MDNHA-128

Purpose:  Recognize three local landmarks of significance to the Civil Rights Movement in Itta Bena, MS and design and place historical freedom markers at these landmark locations.  The landmarks to be recognized are a street corner where the Freedom March from Memphis to Jackson passed, the downtown jail facility in which Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was once incarcerated, and the Hopewell Church, where civil rights meetings were held.  A documentary will also be produced by students about these historic sites.
